A Doyle man has been arrested after an hours-long stand-off with Lassen’s SWAT team.

The sheriff’s office says around 11 am Sunday, multiple calls to 9-1-1 were received about David Garfield Jr., who was armed with a baseball bat, destroying his parent’s property.

While en route, dispatch received more calls that revealed he was chasing a neighbor with a shotgun, followed by reports of gunshots.
Once on scene, three SO units and CHP officers found David behind a locked gate on his parent’s property. Despite negotiations by the Crisis Negotiations Team (CNT), David refused to surrender. The situation escalated, prompting the arrival of the SWAT Team.

While negotiations were ongoing, the drone team was able to give the SWAT team a look at the unfolding situation.
David, who was discovered to have been drinking alcohol throughout the incident, remained uncooperative. A tactical plan was devised to intercept him, resulting in the use of less-lethal munitions, which struck him on his side, causing him to stumble.

However, the attempt to subdue him failed, and still armed with a shotgun, he retreated into his trailer.

Given plenty of opportunity, officers used Diversionary devices and CS gas cans to get him out of his trailer, yet it took another 12 minutes of negotiations before David exited. He was finally taken into custody without further incident.

Deputies discovered a 12-gauge shotgun, live shells, and extensive property damage.

David was treated for injuries at Banner Lassen Medical Center before being booked on multiple charges. He faces assault with a firearm, criminal threats, elder abuse, felony vandalism, obstruction with violence, and exhibiting a firearm in the presence of a peace officer.

He is being held without bail.
