The appointment will be made in a special meeting of the board of supervisors this morning.
The announcement of Sheriff Dean Growdon’s retirement in December prompted the board to begin discussions on who will fill the remaining five years of Growdon’s term. It was determined in those discussions that a special election is not provided by law, and the board must appoint the next sheriff until the next election cycle.
Per the board’s last meeting in January, three applicants, whose names have not been disclosed, were under consideration. Interviews were set to be held in closed session.
Per the board’s agenda, the Supervisors will Discuss the appointed sheriff’s starting salary and benefits before making the appointment.
The board will convene at 9 am in their chambers on Nevada Street in Susanville.
Agenda can be found on the county’s website.
