On Friday, November 1, 2024, at around 3 a.m., first responders battled a blaze that gutted the historic Uptown Susanville St. Francis Hotel and adjoining building, which is home to Utopia Real Estate.
It is unclear how the fire started, as crews continue salvaging the burned buildings.
The St. Francis had recently been purchased by an investor who sought to restore the Susanville icon to its former glory, a multi-million dollar endeavor.
The Lassen County Arts Council was advised to remove all gallery items due to the fire’s threat in the middle of the night. The studio will be temporarily closed.
Susanville Fire says at this time, Main Street will be closed from Weatherlow Street to Union Street, with no estimated time of reopening.
