The region is waking up to yet another rapidly growing wildfire. The Bear Fire has exploded to around 1200 acres threatening the community of Sierra Brooks just South of Loyalton as of the latest update from the Tahoe National Forest.
The blaze which began around 2 pm Monday has no determined cause but remains under investigation. It has been fueled by dry grasses and high winds contributing to its rapid growth. The region was under a red flag warning through 8 pm Monday challenging firefighters. The incident command team says the fire was spotting up to a quarter mile ahead of the fire.
As of Monday, September 3rd, over 500 people have been evacuated with almost 800 homes and businesses without power.
The Sierra County sheriff’s office has three Zones surrounding Sierra Brooks under mandatory evacuations—evacuation warnings span from the Antelope Valley Wildfire area to the Hallelujah junction wildfire area near US 395.
The Bear Fire is 0% contained, updates will be shared as they become available on air and online.
