Saturday, June 6th Big Time Logging Jamboree
On Saturday, June 6, at the Collins Pine Lawn in Chester, Maidu Summit Consortium will proudly host our annual Big Time Logging Jamboree. This marks our fifth year bringing this exciting event to the community, and we could not be more excited to continue the tradition.
The inspiration behind the event comes from Chester’s long history of hosting annual logging shows, a tradition that was once a major part of the community before it eventually faded away. Our organization saw a wonderful opportunity to revive this meaningful event and celebrate the deep-rooted logging heritage that has shaped Chester, as well as the greater Plumas County and Lassen County communities. We are passionate about bringing this tradition back because logging has been an important part of many Native American families’ lives and livelihoods. For generations, Native Americans throughout our region worked within the timber industry to provide for and support their families, making logging not only a profession, but an important part of our community’s history and identity. The Big Time Logging Jamboree is more than just a competition — it is a celebration of our region’s history, hardworking spirit, and local culture. Timber sports provide an exciting way to showcase the incredible skill and talent within our logging communities, while also creating an opportunity to bring people together, support local businesses, and strengthen community connections.
As a Native-led nonprofit organization, the Maidu Summit Consortium is also honored to use this event as an opportunity to share and celebrate Native culture, teachings, and traditions with the community. We look forward to welcoming everyone for a day filled with competition, connection, culture, and community pride.
