The Reno VA medical center has been approved for funding to lead to a new site rather than renovating an outdated facility.
Sierra Nevada VA is looking for an area to build the new Center benefitting Lassen, Plumas, and Sierra County veterans who travel to Reno for services. The facility is expected to provide services in one location rather than at varying locations throughout the reno area. According to the VA Sierra Nevada Healthcare System, the facility serving roughly 40,000 veterans from the local and outlying areas, was constructed in 1939 and has seen upgrades and expansions in the mental health clinic and a completed multi-level parking garage but rather than renovating the outdated facility to meet earthquake standards funding will be used for a new building.
Over 190 million dollars awarded to The VA Sierra Nevada Healthcare System from Congress will be used to construct the replacement facility to serve veterans better.
