Local fire departments and community-based organizations can begin to access 1.4 million dollars in grant funds for wildfire safety and preparedness through PG&E. The company along with the California Fire Foundation to (CFF) have continued their partnership to provide the funding for the CFF’s Wildfire Safety and Preparedness Program (WSPP). Funds will be able to be used for public awareness education about wildfire safety as well as give resources to underserved communities in high fire-risk areas. Last year alone the program funded 670 thousand dollars to 54 local fire departments, fire agencies, and community groups. The contributions are not made through PG&E customers but is shareholder funded. On May 18th, fire departments and community-based organizations can submit applications for this year’s wildfire safety and awareness grants. Applications must be submitted by June 17 at the CFF website.
