FIRE SEASON MAY BEGIN TO LOOK DIFFERENTLY AS PGE DROPS 20 BILLIONS DOLLARS ON PLANS TO UNDERGROUND 10,000 MILES OF POWER LINES IN HIGH FIRE THREAT AREAS. THIS COMES AFTER PG&E SHARES THAT BLOWN FUSES ON ONE OF IT’S POLES IN THE FEATHER RIVER CANYON MAY HAVE BEEN THE CAUSE OF THE DIXIE FIRE THAT HAS NOW BURNED OVER 100,000 ACRES INTO BUTTE AND PLUMAS COUNTIES AND REMAINS ONLY 17% CONTAINED. THE MULTI YEAR PROJECT IS PG&E’S EFFORT TO REDUCE WILDFIRE RISK AND LESS FREQUENT PUBLIC SAFETY POWER SHUTOFFS. THIS AMOUNT OF LINE TO GO UNDERGROUND REPRESENTS A DISTANCE OF ALMOST HALF WAY AROUND THE WORLD AND MAKES UP ABOUT HALF OF THEIR LINES CURRENTLY IN HIGH FIRE RISK AREAS.
