A 24-year-old man from Reno died Monday afternoon in a head-on crash on Highway 139, just south of the Tulelake Agricultural Station.
The California Highway Patrol responded to the crash around 2:55 p.m. on October 6.
The man was driving a Toyota Tacoma northbound when he lost control and crossed into the southbound lane. A 55-year-old woman from Adin was driving a Ram 2500 southbound at the time.
The two pickups collided head-on. The Tacoma driver suffered major injuries and died at the scene.
The woman in the Ram 2500 had minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.
Photos from CHP show the Tacoma heavily damaged in the roadway. The Ram overturned onto its side.
Officials have not released the speeds of the vehicles.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. CHP does not believe alcohol or drugs played a role.
The names of the drivers have not been released.
