Feather River College Dominates Cabrillo with Balanced Offense and Strong Defense in 69 to 6 Victory

Feather River College delivered a complete performance Saturday afternoon, scoring touchdowns on offense and defense while rolling past Cabrillo College, 69–6.

The Golden Eagles accumulated 464 yards of offense, averaged 8.8 yards per play and scored in all four quarters. Feather River rushed for 265 yards and finished with 25 first downs while limiting Cabrillo to 235 total yards.

Quarterback Kayden Leaf (Red Bluff, CA) directed the balanced offensive effort. Leaf completed 9 of 15 passes for 183 yards and a touchdown while adding 34 yards and another score on the ground. His nine-yard touchdown run extended Feather River’s lead to 21–0 early in the second quarter, and he later connected with Jamariyen Farmer for a 50-yard touchdown.

Marcellus Clay (Boise, ID) contributed throughout the game, finishing with 149 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns. Clay carried five times for 56 yards, caught three passes for 81 yards and added 12 yards on punt returns. His touchdown runs of four and 14 yards helped the Golden Eagles build a 28–0 advantage.

Defensively, Tyrn Sam (Lovelock, NV) produced one of the game’s biggest plays. Sam recovered a Cabrillo fumble and returned it 48 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter. The sophomore linebacker also recorded six tackles, one sack and two tackles for loss.

Nason Rodriguez added 99 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries. Farmer finished with 55 receiving yards and a touchdown while also returning two kickoffs for 80 yards.

Feather River took control immediately, scoring on a 39-yard Rodriguez run and Clay’s four-yard touchdown in the opening quarter. The Golden Eagles added three more touchdowns before halftime to take a 35–0 lead into the break.

Following Rodriguez’s second rushing touchdown, Sam’s defensive score pushed the advantage to 48–0. Cabrillo scored its lone touchdown late in the third quarter before Feather River closed the game with three fourth-quarter touchdowns.

Quarterback Ethan Kraintz completed both of his passes for touchdowns, connecting with Zach Clarke from 13 yards and Chase Langbehn from three yards. Kraintz also scored on a three-yard run.

The Golden Eagles’ defense held Cabrillo to a 19-percent conversion rate on third down and recovered two fumbles. Akhir Harris led Feather River with eight tackles and a tackle for loss, while Terry Davis recorded seven tackles and three quarterback hurries.

Feather River returns to action Saturday, October 10, traveling to College of the Siskiyous for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff.
