Chester Junior-Senior High School announces the Volcanoes varsity volleyball team is on a roll and bound for the California Interscholastic Federation North Coast Section playoffs.

The team’s “incredible final week” of the regular season saw the Lady Volcanos sweep Los Molinos in three straight sets to set up a huge matchup against Portola, said coaches. Two weeks earlier, Portola edged Chester in a five-set battle. But the Vols got their revenge in the rematch, sweeping Portola in three straight sets. Portola finished the season at 21-9, with the Volcanoes finished at 21-8.

The team plays the semifinals at home Thursday, Oct. 29, with a game time of 7 p.m. The winners of the semifinals move on to the championship at Foothill High School.

Player of the week: Kylie Kistle, Junior

Coaches named junior Kylie Kistle player of the week for her powerful contribution to the Chester Volcanoes’ success. “Her thoughtful, consistent serving, solid defensive play and intelligent, purposeful attacking helped make a difference when it mattered most,” they said. “Kylie played with confidence, discipline and an understanding of what her team needed. She showed that success isn’t just about making big plays — it’s about making smart plays, staying consistent and doing the little things that help a team win.”

Coaches call the junior high volleyball season one to be proud of. The Chester team wrapped up its season at the Quincy Jamboree. “Throughout the year, these girls worked hard, competed together and continued to grow as a team,” said coaches. At the jamboree, Kylee Joa and Ava Williams stood out for their consistent effort, competitive spirit and determination.

“Not one of our girls gave up,” said coaches. “They kept competing, supporting one another and fighting through the challenges until the end. That is what being a Volcano is all about. Success isn’t just measured by wins and losses — it’s measured by effort, growth, teamwork and how you respond when things don’t go your way.”

Coaches say they are excited to see what the future holds for this group.
