Feather River’s Rodriguez, Riverside’s Creta Named 3CFCA State Players of the Week

The California Community College Football Coaches Association (3CFCA) has named Feather River College running back Nason Rodriguez the State Offensive Player of the Week and Riverside City College kicker Kiara Creta its State Defensive Player of the Week for Week 5.

Making his first start of the season for Feather River, Rodriguez had an amazing game for the Golden Eagles in their big win at Coalinga. Rodriguez had four carries for an impressive 201 yards, averaging 50.3 yards, with touchdown runs of 51, 68, and 80 yards.

Rodriguez is a freshman originally out of McQueen High School in Reno, Nev.

Creta made history for the Tigers, becoming the first female athlete to score points for Riverside football in the program’s 100-year history. She connected on a 47-yard field goal and converted all five extra-point attempts, accounting for eight points in the Tigers’ victory over Palomar.

According to Riverside’s research, Creta’s eight points are the most scored in a single game by a female football player in 3C2A history. Her 47-yard field goal is also the longest field goal made by a female kicker in 3C2A football history.

Creta is a sophomore out of Santiago High School in Corona.

Jalen Murphy, Sequoias, RB
Murphy played a key role in Sequoias’ win over San Francisco. He led COS on the ground with 7 carries for 157 yards (22.4 yards avg.) and 1 TD. 

National Division Defensive Player of the Week
Luke Saysette, American River, LB
Saysette helped lead a solid defensive effort in the Beavers win at Fresno City. He totaled 5 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, 1 interception, and had a forced fumble.

American Division Offensive Player of the Week
Nason Rodriguez, Feather River, RB
In his first start of the season, Rodriguez had 4 carries for an impressive 201 yards (50.3 yards avg.) with touchdown runs of 51, 68, and 80 yards in Feather River’s win over Coalinga.

Key Cortner, Hartnell, DB
Cortner came up with a huge defensive play, returning an interception 78 yards for a touchdown in Hartnell victory over Contra Costa. He added 4 tackles including a tackle for loss.

National Division Offensive Player of the Week
Kurelle Thomas, Riverside, RB
Thomas had a huge game rushing for Riverside with 17 carries for 81 yards and four touchdowns in a 60-37 win at Palomar. Three of his four touchdowns came in the first half to help keep No. 1 Riverside unbeaten at 5-0.

National Division Defensive Player of the Week
Valentino Wedderburn, Southwester, SS
Wedderburn came up with two big plays on defense for No. 8 Southwestern in its 44-42 overtime win against No. 4 San Diego Mesa. He had two interceptions, including a Pick-6 returned 55 yards for a touchdown. Wedderburn added six tackles.

National Division Special Teams/All-Purpose Player of the Week
Kiara Creta, Riverside, K

Malikai Johnson, West Los Angeles, RB
Johnson had a solid game for West LA in its win over LA Southwest. He totaled 16 carries for 110 yards (both game-highs) with a touchdown.

Robert Nobles, Santa Monica, LB
Nobles had 8 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 1 forced fumble and 1 fumble recovery in Santa Monica’s win over LA Valley.

American Division Special Teams/All-Purpose Player of the Week
Nasir Jenkins, Compton, All-Purpose
Jenkins stepped in wherever he was needed for Compton at Glendale. He took over punting duties and had 4 punts for 159 yards (39.8 avg). On defense, he led the team with 6 tackles and had a quarterback hurry. He also played offense and had a kickoff return.
