The fifth annual Sacred Mountain Powwow will bring dancers, drum groups, and community members together Sept. 25–27 at the Fort Bidwell Tribal Gymnasium.
The three-day, drug- and alcohol-free event is open to the public with free admission and available camping. Vendors, drums, and dancers are all invited to participate.
Host drum War Eagle from Boise, Idaho, and invited drum Painted Horse from Owyhee, Nevada, will lead the weekend’s music.
Head staff for the powwow include:
- Head Lady: Ramona Quenelle (Roaring Creek Rancheria, California; Pit River-Madesi Band)
- Head Man: Anthony Quenelle (Grand Ronde, Oregon; Grand Ronde, Modoc, Klammath)
- Head Teen Girl: Myla Miller (Klamath Falls, Oregon; Klamath, Modoc, Paiute)
- Head Teen Boy: Jordan Chavez (McDermitt, Nevada; Paiute, Shoshone, Navajo)
- Arena Director: Jack Williams (Reno, Nevada; Navajo)
- Tabulator: Anita Talancon (Reno, Nevada; Paiute)
- MC: Jimmy Phoenix (Pyramid Lake, Nevada; Kickapoo, Paiute)
Grand Entry times are scheduled for Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at noon, and Sunday at noon. Saturday’s schedule includes a dinner break from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
The schedule features competition dancing, a hand drum singing contest, a Red Dress Special, a Northern Men’s Traditional Special, a Jingle Dress Special, and a Tiny Tots event.
