A Nevada man was killed and two others were injured Thursday night following a head-on, alcohol-related collision on US-395 near County Road A25.
According to a press release from the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred on September 3, 2026, at approximately 8:53 p.m.
CHP investigators report that a black 2012 GMC Sierra, driven by 39-year-old Brian Blickenstaff of Herlong, California, was traveling southbound on US-395 north of County Road A25. At the same time, a white 2026 Ford Transit Van was traveling northbound on US-395 south of the intersection.
Investigators state Blickenstaff allowed his vehicle to cross over the solid double yellow lines into the northbound lane. The driver of the Ford attempted to steer to the right to avoid the oncoming truck, but the two vehicles collided head-on.
CHP Officer C. Guillemin was patrolling near the area and arrived at the scene moments after the crash occurred, alongside additional emergency personnel from surrounding agencies.
Despite life-saving efforts by emergency first responders, the 42-year-old driver of the Ford Transit Van, a resident of Sparks, Nevada, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. His identity is being withheld pending release by the coroner’s office.
A passenger in the Ford, identified as 41-year-old Christopher Rawlins of Susanville, suffered major injuries. He was transported to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno for treatment.
Following an initial on-scene investigation, Blickenstaff was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. He sustained injuries in the crash and was also transported to Renown Regional Medical Center for treatment.
In the release, the Susanville CHP Office urged drivers to make responsible choices behind the wheel, reminding the public that officers will be out in force over the upcoming holiday weekend to combat impaired and dangerous driving.
The collision remains under investigation by the Susanville CHP.
