The U.S. Forest Service has issued an algal mat alert for the Warner Mountain Ranger District on the Modoc National Forest. Areas affected include East Creek, one mile south of South Warner Road; Owl Creek, 0.2 miles above County Road 1; and Twelve Mile Creek, one mile east of Mount Bidwell.
Algal mats in these spots can produce toxins that pose health risks to people and pets. Avoid direct contact with algae when you recreate near these waterways. Keep children and pets under close supervision to prevent exposure.
Do not use the affected water for drinking or cooking. After any water activities, wash thoroughly with clean water. If you catch fish in these areas, clean them carefully before preparation.
