Senator Megan Dahle stated that Local fairgrounds are major economic drivers throughout the state, but especially in rural communities. The rides are fun and the junior livestock events are a rite of passage for many youths, but the fairgrounds are more than that. They provide critical local bases for emergency response and they are cultural hotspots and meeting grounds. Fairs are critical local infrastructure.
This week the Senate unanimously passed AB 1711, by Assemblymember Damon Connolly. This bill will eliminate hurdles to fairgrounds receiving their share of tax revenues in a timely manner, improving their business stability. This bill next heads to the governor, who I hope will do the right thing and sign it into law.
