Thunderstorms and critical fire conditions affected the northern and northeastern areas of the Modoc National Forest, leading to numerous lightning strikes resulting in nine fires for approximately 91.5 acres. Firefighting resources from the Modoc National Forest, along with several aerial units, responded to help contain these incidents.
The Flat Fire, situated in the Devils Garden Ranger District just north of the Double Devil Wild Horse Corrals, covered approximately 47.5 acres and had a dozer containment line established around it.
The Mountain Fire, located northeast of Telephone Flat, was approximately 40 acres in size and is currently 90% lined with containment lines. Fire crews worked through the night to build and reinforce these lines.
The remaining seven fires were all one acre or less, as Modoc fire resources responded swiftly to contain them and prevent their spread.
