Beginning June 12, 2026, the Susanville, Alturas, and Quincy Areas will be committed to an enforcement campaign on US-395 from the Oregon to Nevada Borders.  The focus of this enforcement campaign is to reduce the number of injury and fatal crashes that occur on US-395.  Our enforcement efforts will focus on the primary crash factors, such as speeding, distracted driving, unsafe passing, driving under the influence, and commercial vehicle violations.

Over the past 10 years, 26 fatal crashes have occurred on the US-395 corridor between the SR-36 junction and Red Rock Road.  Of those 26 fatal crashes, 16 involved local Lassen County residents.

The CHP reminds you of the following practices to help everyone arrive at their destination safely:

  • Leave early for your destination so you are not in a rush and be well rested.
  • Be patient for the next safe passing lane.
  • Do not drive distracted – that text message can wait.
  • Do not drive intoxicated.
  • Always wear your safety belt, and ensure children are properly restrained.
  • Reduce your speed and increase your distance in between other vehicles.
