1978-2026
Shane Michael Holland passed away with his family by his side on May 22, 2026, at the age of 48. He was born January 15, 1978 in Tucson, AZ, the same year his family moved to Woodland, CA where Shane graduated from Woodland High School in 1996. He then went to UCSB and earned his BA in History in 2002.
Shane met the love of his life, Carla Smith, in 2010 at his brother’s wedding and they became inseparable. In 2013 Shane and Carla moved to Susanville and in April of 2016 were married. Their family grew to four with the births of Charlotte and Evelyn.
Shane’s vast experience in business led him to working in banking, most recently at Plumas Bank where he was the Vice President, Business Advisor/Branch Manager in Susanville. In the community, he was a Rotarian, community activist and trusted advisor.
Shane was passionate about music, art, and, above all, his family. He had a remarkable talent for finding diamonds in the rough—sometimes literally. He curated a popular gem-focused social media community, bringing together people who shared his fascination with gemstones and unique finds. He brought that same enthusiasm to refurbishing Volvos, building another loyal circle of friends who shared his interests.
Shane’s enthusiasm for expertise provided a foundation in which he immersed himself when learning a new hobby. Whatever it was, Shane had done research, watched videos and reached out to the experts in the field. He was an avid hobbyist, a collector of friendships, and a builder of community.
Most importantly, Shane cultivated memories. The moments he cherished most were those spent with his wife and daughters. A glance at his social media page makes that abundantly clear—his love for his girls was woven into every part of his life. They were his greatest pride, his most valuable gemstone, and the center of the life he built.
Shane is survived by wife Carla and daughters Charlotte and Evelyn; mother Rebecca Holland; father Dr. Romie Holland (Jean Kareofelas); brother Ryan Holland (Sue) and their children Audrey, Eli and Grace; step-sisters Sara Lampinen and Merry Cristiani, as well as numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.
He was predeceased by Maternal Grandparents David and Aldyth Gragg, Paternal Grandparents Dale and Helen Holland.
Shane will be deeply missed and forever remembered in our hearts.
Memorial services are planned for:
