Caltrans District 2 is planning weekend openings for the Lake Almanor Safety Roadside Rest Area on State Route 36 near Chester (Plumas County). The rest area is typically closed seasonally between November and May and has remained closed this month due to issues with the contract for cleaning. Caltrans District 2 personnel are working to open the rest area over the weekends this summer, however, closures and variations to this schedule are possible at any time.
Memorial Day Weekend: The rest area is planned to be open this Thursday (May 21) through next Monday (May 25).
Following weekends: The rest area is planned to be open each Thursday through Sunday going into the summer months.
