Mayor Bill Powers opened the Portola City Council meeting on April 8 with the announcement that Councilmember Pat Morton had resigned, effective immediately, due to medical reasons. Morton had been absent from the previous council session.
City Attorney Steve Gross, participating remotely, outlined the process for addressing the vacancy. He explained that the council has 60 days to either call a special election or appoint a replacement to serve the remainder of Morton’s term. The council is expected to discuss the options and determine the best course of action in the coming weeks.
