How Texting 911 Can Save Lives When Calls Arent Possible in Emergencies

CHP in Susanville wants to remind folks that that, in our area, you can text 911 when: you have limited cell service, sometimes zero cell service (some carriers allow satellite connection), or in situations where a call isn’t possible (an abduction, domestic violence, etc.).

A text to 911 in these situations can save a life by getting help there quicker!

Our Dispatchers will need the following information, (applicable to the situation), to deploy the appropriate resources:

*Location
*What the emergency is: vehicle crash, lost in the woods, disabled motorist, abduction, domestic violence, etc.
*Vehicle descriptions
*If an ambulance or the fire department is needed
*Are there any known weapons involved
*How many people are involved
*Who the suspects are
*Victim descriptions
*Is the roadway blocked
