It truly was a welcome home for David Long as he received his keys from realtor Cassie Barr as the buyer of the first home produced by the Welcome Home Greenville (WHG) project. A resident of Greenville for 62 years, Long lost his home in the Dixie Fire in 2021 and is happy to be returning to his community.
“The purpose of Welcome Home Greenville was to build affordable homes for the purpose of getting displaced residents back to Greenville or entice newcomers, perhaps first-time home buyers, to our community. To have Mr. Long be our first buyer assures us that we are on the right path,” says Kest Porter, member of the Welcome Home Greenville project The second home will be totally financed with monies from this purchase. The property located at 305 Bush Street is prepared. The estimated time for completion of the second home and installation by RRA Builders is early spring of 2026.
The Almanor Foundation is happy that the WHG project that developed from the Workforce Housing Initiative served its purpose as intended. “Though we have stated we were met with numerous challenges over the past three years, the foundation did not waiver, confident that the outcome from the initiative would lead us to our goal of affordable housing,” says Josh Huddleston, board member and liaison for the initiative.
