On October 29, 2025, at approximately 0940 hours, the Susanville Interagency Dispatch Center (SIFC) dispatched units from the Susanville City Fire Department (SFD), CalFire, CDCR Fire, and Susan River Fire Protection District to a reported residential structure fire on the 100 block of North Sacramento Street. SIFC advised that all occupants were out of the house. SFD E623 arrived on scene and found a working fire with heavy smoke and flames coming from the windows on the front and side of the house. E623 assumed command and initiated fire attack.
CalFire E2261 and B2207 arrived on scene and ventilated the roof to release the hot gases and smoke from inside the residence. E2261 and B2207 assisted E623 with complete extinguishment of the fire. CDCR E5210 arrived on scene and assisted with salvage and overhaul. CalFire E2281 was available on scene to help cover the city. Once overhaul was completed, a fire investigation began. The fire was determined to have started in the front bedroom; however, the cause is still under investigation. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries. The fire did displace 2 adults, 1 child and 1 dog. The American Red Cross was contacted to provide assistance. The Susanville City Fire Department was supported by CalFire, CDCR Fire, Susanville City Police Department, Susanville City Public Works, and LMUD.
The occupants were able to escape the fire and smoke due to working smoke detectors. The Susanville City Fire Department wants to remind everyone to change out your smoke detector batteries on November 2nd when we “fall back” for daylight saving time.
