On Sunday, October 18th, 2025 at approximately 11:08 PM, Craig Wessel was driving a 2021 Ford pickup southbound on State Route 147, at an undetermined speed. For reasons under investigation, Wessel allowed the Ford to leave roadway to the east. The driver was ejected and landed next to the vehicle which caught fire. The driver was located on fire by CHP and Penninsula fire personnel and pulled away from the burning vehicle. Wessel was flown via air ambulance to Enloe Medical Center for treatment of suspected major injuries This case is still under investigation.
