Major Crimes Unit Detectives Arrest Child Predator
In June of 2025, the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit reviewed a case referral from the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. The case referral indicated a subject out of Burney, CA was uploading Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) onto a website known for being used to distribute CSAM.
Through further investigation the subject was identified as Austin Michael Sauer, Age 28, of Burney. As a result of this investigation, a Felony Arrest Warrant was issued for Sauer on October 7th, 2025.
On Wednesday, October 15th, 2025, Detectives and Burney Patrol Deputies served a search warrant at Sauer’s residence on the 20000 block of Tamarack Road in Burney. Sauer was taken into custody and was booked into the Shasta County Jail for the following charges:
• 311.11(a) PC – Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material
Austin Sauer’s bail is currently set at $25,000.
