Plumas District Hospital Celebrates Opening of New Skilled Nursing Facility

On October 7, approximately 300 community members gathered to celebrate the ribbon-cutting ceremony for Plumas District Hospital’s new 36-bed skilled nursing facility. The event featured remarks from hospital leadership and board members, followed by tours showcasing the state-of-the-art design and amenities.

PDH Chief Executive Officer JoDee Johnson welcomed attendees, acknowledging the challenges faced during the planning and construction phases and expressing deep appreciation for the collaborative efforts that brought the project to fruition.

Board Chair Andy Ryback highlighted the facility’s importance in meeting community needs while strengthening the hospital’s overall services. He praised the wide range of contributors—from foundation donors to hospital staff—emphasizing that the project’s ultimate beneficiaries are the patients.

Chief Operating Officer Darren Beatty thanked partners including Aspen Tree Architects, who created a design balancing practicality and compassion, and acknowledged support from agencies such as the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Plumas County Planning, Quincy Fire Department, Wilburn Construction, and Mountain Craft Landscaping. Beatty also recognized the dedication of the PDH team as “the heart and soul” of the project.

The new facility features welcoming, spacious accommodations with a modern kitchen and dining area, therapy and meeting rooms, social activity spaces, sitting rooms with fireplaces and large-screen TVs, and multiple outdoor patios for resident enjoyment.

Staffing efforts began in early 2025 in anticipation of hiring approximately 80 employees, including nurses, nurse’s assistants, housekeeping, and support personnel.
