A Los Angeles man was sentenced for the 2023 assault of a federal corrections officer at a federal prison in Lassen County.
The United States Department of Justice says that 30-year-old Hewer Berlany Santos of Los Angeles was handed down a 21-month prison sentence by U.S. District Judge Dena M. Coggins for assaulting a federal officer.
Court documents reveal that on August 21, 2023, Santos struck a federal correctional officer in the face at a federal prison in Herlong, which is located in Lassen County.
Authorities say the officer required medical attention for cuts and abrasions to his face sustained during the assault.
The U.S. Department of Justice says that the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) conducted the investigation into the assault.
