The Honey Lake Valley Recreation Authority, the operator of the Honey Lake Valley Community Pool, created by a joint powers agreement between the city of Susanville and Lassen County, met at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19 in the City Hall Chambers, 66 N. Lassen St. in Susanville.
Board members City Councilmember Russ Brown and City Councilmember Curtis Bortle were absent. Board members in attendance included Supervisors Mike Scanlan and Tom Neely. Alternate member City Councilmember Dawn Miller attended to create a quorum.
The board appointed City Manager Dan Newton as interim executive officer due to the upcoming retirement of Susanville Public Works Director Bob Godman.
Newton told the board the role of executive officer of the HLVRA is part of the job description of the public works director. When asked if the executive director had to be a city employee, Newton said under the current agreements, the answer is yes because the authority’s staff are all city employees.
Newton also said the city had a role to play in this process, but with Godman’s retirement, “We wanted to make sure we had the position covered.”
Item 7A, “Consider(ation of) letters of interest and appointment of public board member,” was pulled from the agenda. So far the board has received six letters of interest. Godman said letters of interest would be accepted until Thursday, Sept. 11 and a selection of a public member is expected at the HLVRA board meeting Tuesday, Sept. 16.
Other actions
The board unanimously approved a contract amendment for the Lassen Volcanoes to extend their season and unanimously approved payment of $71,452.79 to reimburse the city for services and payroll of pool employees provided by the city to the HLVRA from June 7 through Aug. 1.
The board also received updates on the Lassen High School Swim Team agreement and the pool financials.
The HLVRA’s next regularly scheduled meeting will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Spet. 16.
