On Sunday, August 10, 2025, at approximately 9:09 p.m., Charles Harrison, age 57 of Gridley, was reported missing after family members found his golf cart by the Sutter-Butte Canal on Richards Avenue in Gridley. Family members reported that is a place Harrison liked to go to swim. Butte County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue was initiated and searched through the night and until the early morning. Additional resources were requested through mutual aid.
Search efforts were resumed at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, August 11, 2025, utilizing Butte County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue, BCSO deputies, members of the Yuba County Sheriff’s Office, and a California Rescue Dog Association (CARDA) K9. Harrison was located deceased in the Sutter-Butte Canal, south of Metteer Road in Gridley at approximately 8:50 a.m. The investigation is ongoing and an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
