The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) on Monday opened a 30-day public comment period regarding its plans to offer 11 oil and gas parcels, totaling 19,957 acres, in a lease sale scheduled for March 2026.
The comment period will remain open through Sept. 3.
Leasing is an initial step in the federal oil and gas development process.
Before any development can take place, companies must submit applications for permits to drill, which include detailed development plans. These applications are reviewed by the BLM, posted for public review, and undergo environmental analysis in coordination with state agencies and other stakeholders.
Each parcel considered for leasing includes specific stipulations intended to protect natural resources.
Information about the parcels under review, along with maps and instructions on how to submit comments, is available on the BLM’s ePlanning website at: https://eplanning.blm.gov/eplanning-ui/project/2039811/510.
The BLM conducts lease sales online through EnergyNet, and details on current and upcoming sales can be found on the National Fluid Lease Sale System.
