Susanville fire department shuts down Highway 36 for an hour overnight on Tuesday. Around 7 p.m., the Susanville Fire crews responded to a small fire that broke out in the brush by McDonald’s.
The Fire Department was forced to shut down highway 36 and Riverside Drive and Skyline Road intersections for an hour due to the flames under the bridge. Crews say the fire was located on the east side of the Susan River consisting of tree branches and thick bark. Two Cal Fire engines assisted and accessed the fire to extinguish it.
The cause has yet to be determined and is under investigation.
