At the May 20, 2026, meeting of the California Water Commission, staff from the Department of Water Resources (DWR) will provide an overview of its efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions within the State Water Project (SWP) to reach the goal of being 100 percent renewable and carbon neutral by the close of 2035. DWR staff will also update the Commission on safety metrics and data used to reduce injuries, illnesses and unsafe conditions throughout the SWP.
Staff from DWR’s Sustainable Groundwater Management Office will provide an update on the implementation of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA). They will present a summary of the annual groundwater conditions report, State activities to support responsible groundwater trading, and the release of the Land Subsidence Best Management Practices document.
The meeting is open to the public and will also be live streamed online.

Also on the May meeting agenda, representatives of the Chino Basin Program, part of the Water Storage Investment Program (WSIP), will provide an update on their project, an advanced water treatment and distribution facility that would increase local water supply resiliency and reliability, and maximize recycled water usage in the region. The meeting will also include a quarterly WSIP update, and a briefing on pending State legislation relevant to the activities of DWR and the Commission.
