In a significant multi-county drug bust operation, Butte County drug agents, alongside other law enforcement agencies, conducted raids that resulted in the tragic death of Marysville Police Officer Osmar Rodarte. The operation, which unfolded on a Wednesday, involved serving 20 warrants across Butte, Tehama, Yuba, and Sutter Counties. Within Butte and Tehama Counties, six felony arrests were made, including charges related to a DMT lab, methamphetamine possession for sale, and possession of a short-barreled shotgun.

The Yuba County District Attorney, Clint Curry, detailed that the operation was the result of a lengthy investigation by the DEA into a transnational drug-trafficking organization. This investigation had already led to the seizure of significant quantities of methamphetamine, heroin, fentanyl, and over $150,000 in cash before the events of Wednesday.

Officer Rodarte was killed during a raid in Olivehurst, conducted by the NET 5 Yuba Sutter Drug and Gang Enforcement Task Force. The suspect involved, Rick David Oliver, aged 61, was shot and killed by return fire during the incident. Oliver’s home was one of several locations under investigation for drug trafficking and firearm-related offenses.

The operation underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat drug trafficking and the associated dangers, as well as the profound risks faced by officers in the line of duty. The incident has prompted condolences and support for Officer Rodarte’s family, the Marysville Police Department, and the wider community. Further details on the outcomes of the raids are expected to be released soon.
