The Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office says it is not moving forward with the implementation of Flock Safety camera technology after identifying significant privacy concerns during the evaluation process.
In a statement released July 29, Sheriff Jeremiah LaRue addressed questions from residents regarding the possible use of Flock Safety cameras in Siskiyou County. The Sheriff’s Office confirmed that no Flock Safety cameras are currently installed in the county.
Officials also responded to reports of a camera in the Central Weed area, stating that neither the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office nor the Weed Police Department owns the device, and the agency is currently unaware of who does.
Sheriff LaRue noted that in 2025, he signed an agreement that would have allowed the Sheriff’s Office to access the Flock Safety network and establish a local program for legitimate law enforcement purposes. The Siskiyou County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the agreement during a public meeting on June 17, 2025.
However, as the Sheriff’s Office evaluated how the system would be implemented, officials identified several significant privacy concerns. After reviewing those issues, Sheriff LaRue decided not to proceed with the program at this time.
The Sheriff’s Office said it remains committed to balancing the use of effective public safety technology with the privacy rights of Siskiyou County residents and visitors and will continue to evaluate emerging technologies in a thoughtful and transparent manner.
