Shasta County Green Fire Update

AS OF JULY 17, 2025, at 10:45 A.M. — SHASTA COUNTY, Calif. — National Firefighters continue their battle with the Green Fire in Shasta County that has burned 16,509 acres. The blaze, ignited by lightning, is currently 16% contained.

According to the Shasta Trinity National Forest and California Complex Incident Management Team 10, Caltrans has been instrumental in assisting crews around the Interstate 5 closure.

The Shasta County Air Quality Management District has warned residents, especially those with health vulnerabilities, to stay cautious and limit outdoor activities due to the smoke.

Officials say fire activity remains high, with efforts focused on the east flank near Rip Gut Ridge and the southwest area between the Sulanharas and Pit River arms of Shasta Lake. Crews and helicopters worked to control the fire’s spread yesterday.

Officials added that tire weather conditions predict shifting winds and moderate temperatures, continuing to challenge firefighting efforts. More than 1,400 personnel are involved in these operations to contain the fire.

Evacuation orders are in place for a portion of zone LKH-1448-A, with evacuation warnings for LKH-1448-BLKH-1190 and LKH-1200. Residents can check evacuation zones and alerts online here.
