Rices Fire Gains 65% Containment, Sheriff’s Offices Lift All Evac Warnings

Yuba and Nevada county sheriff’s office has lifted all evacuation warnings for the Rices Fire burning in Nevada County. The fire remained at just over 900 acres since its initial push yet firefighters, air operations, and hand crews were able to keep it within its boundaries and have now gained 65% containment. Favorable weather was helpful in containment and mop-up, a total of 13 structures were destroyed, 5 being homes, and over a dozen firefighters suffered injuries while battling the fire, 13 being from heat-related illness leading up to the weekend when temperatures soared in the 90’s in the area.

 

A new fire, the Electra Fire, North of Sacramento near Jackson started has exploded to over 3,000 acres within the last 24 hours, with 0% containment.
