The Town of Paradise has unanimously approved new contracts to enhance medical premiums for town employees.
This decision removes the post-Camp Fire cap on the percentage the town covers for premiums.
Under the new agreements, the town will cover 80% of medical costs, compared to the current 50%. The aim is to both retain current employees and attract new ones.
Mayor Steve Crowder explained to Action News Now how the town plans to manage the increased cost.
“Oh, it absolutely will. Well, that’s what the PG&E settlement was for,” said Crowder. “It was for, keeping our town operating as it was pre-fire, for the next twenty years, and and that’s what we’re doing. And and our expenses have greatly, increased because our staff has increased.”
The improved medical premiums will cover plans for active employees, including general employees, management, and the police.
