The Sutter County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man on September 20 who was impersonating a peace officer in the area of Highway 20 and Bridge Street. According to officials, deputies responded to a report from a motorist about a suspicious traffic stop.
Officials say that deputies quickly located the suspect vehicle near South Tarke Road and Highway 20. The motorist identified the driver as 42-year-old Jaymi Ramirez, of Marysville.
A records check revealed Ramirez had a criminal history and an active out-of-county warrant. Sheriff’s office officials say in the search of his vehicle, deputies found a loaded 30-round AR-15 magazine, an unregistered AR-15 rifle, and an LED light pod that could flash red and blue lights.
Ramirez was arrested and booked into the Sutter County Jail on several charges, including felony firearm charges and impersonating a peace officer.
The Sutter County Sheriff’s Office advised the public on safety measures if stopped by someone they suspect is not an officer. They emphasized that deputies will identify themselves and provide credentials, especially if in an unmarked vehicle.
If anyone feels unsure about a stop, they should call the sheriff’s office or dial 9-1-1 if they feel in danger.
