You may be interested to know if you are a Humboldt University Alumni, or a student looking at where to attend college next year, Humboldt State University in Arcata has now become the state’s third Cal Poly. It is now officially renamed as Cal Poly Humboldt. The term Cal Poly comes from the longer version California State Polytechnic University. President of the University Tom Jackson has pushed for the name change as part of an effort to stimulate the economy of Northern California. The change will usher in new curriculum and facilities as well as increase hands on student research opportunities. With one main difference in obtaining the new designation is the focus in applied sciences and technical arts in its curriculum, as is seen at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and Cal Poly Pomona. The state legislature will be asked to incorporate the name into legislation next year.
