House Passes Resolution Against Biden Administrations Longfin Smelt Endangered Listing

Today the House passed Doug LaMalfa’s resolution to stop the Biden Administration’s politically motivated attempt to list the longfin smelt as endangered in the San Francisco Bay-Delta.

Lamalda stated, this listing isn’t about science—it’s about control. The Administration and activist judges have weaponized the Endangered Species Act to block progress on California water policy. Even Stanford’s water policy experts questioned the science behind this listing. It’s based on cherry-picked data, surveys that weren’t even designed to track longfin smelt, and a process that ignored peer review and key information gaps.

What does it mean in practice? Another layer of conflicting regulations that dump tens of millions of acre-feet of water out to the Pacific Ocean, while California farmers are left with a fraction of what they were promised.

Congress isn’t going to sit back while bureaucrats and lawsuits keep choking off the water system that feeds our farms and our economy. I’m proud to see the House take a stand.
