Elko County
Size: 12,794 Acres. Containment: 44%
Fire behavior on the Hot Canyon Fire remains moderate, with creeping, isolated torching, and smoldering across the fire area. Interior islands are showing similar behavior, especially in sagebrush communities where fine fuels allow for creeping and occasional torching.
Fire crews are continuing full suppression efforts, using both direct and indirect tactics supported by ground and air resources. Work is underway to contain interior islands while minimizing impacts to greater sage-grouse habitat.
Firefighter and public safety remain the top priority. Crews are working to reduce the risk of fire spread to private property, homes, priority sage-grouse habitat, and other values at risk—while balancing safety with effective operations. Mop-up and suppression repair will follow agency standards.
Weather Reminder: Monday’s high is forecasted near 96°F with low humidity around 9% during the day and only 35% recovery overnight. Dry thunderstorms are possible Monday (5-15% chance) and slightly higher Tuesday afternoon and evening (10-20% chance). Gusty outflow winds over 20 mph could challenge control efforts.
