At approximately 12:40 AM on December 2nd, Sacramento County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a reported domestic violence incident at an apartment complex on the 3800 block of 44th Avenue in South Sacramento. An anonymous caller reported a male and female physically fighting inside a vehicle parked on the property.
As a Deputy arrived on scene and approached the vehicle, an adult male exited, fired one round at the Deputy, and immediately fled on foot. The Deputy was not struck or injured and did not return fire.
Deputies quickly established a perimeter with the assistance of outside agencies, including @sacpolice , @elkgrovepolice , and @chp_southsacramento . The suspect was located a short time later in a field near a mobile home park on Stillman Park Circle.
Deputies confirmed the suspect was armed with a handgun and making repeated threats. The Sheriff’s Office Special Enforcement Detail (SED/SWAT) and Critical Incident Negotiations Team (CINT) responded and attempted for several hours to negotiate a peaceful surrender.
Despite extensive negotiation efforts for approximately 5 hours, the suspect shot himself one time, resulting in his death. No Deputies or civilians were injured during the incident.
The suspect’s identity will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office after next-of-kin notifications are completed, in accordance with their protocols.
