A targeted mass shooting at a Stockton-area child’s birthday party has left four dead, including children aged 8, 9, 14, and a 21-year-old, and 11 others injured. The tragic event occurred just before 6 p.m. Saturday at a banquet hall on Lucile Avenue near Thornton Road, where 100 to 150 people were gathered to celebrate a 2-year-old’s birthday.
Authorities believe multiple shooters were involved, with firearms found on the roof of the venue. The attack reportedly started inside the hall and ended outside. The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office continues its investigation alongside local and federal agencies, including the FBI and ATF.
The victims include a third-grade student from Stockton Unified School District, which is now offering counseling services to support students and staff. Among the injured is Jasmine Dellafosse, a community leader and advocate for violence reduction, who is recovering after surgery.
Stockton Mayor Christina Fugazi described the shooting as stemming from “group gang violence,” though the sheriff says it’s too early to confirm motives. The city is mourning deeply as the community gathers for vigils and support in the aftermath of this devastating attack during the Thanksgiving weekend—a time meant for family and celebration.
California Governor Gavin Newsom and First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom expressed heartbreak over the incident, emphasizing their support for the victims’ families and the Stockton community as they heal from this horrific tragedy.
