On March 4, 2025, the U.S. Marshals Service Nevada Violent Offender Task Force, in collaboration with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), successfully apprehended Guillermo Verano-Cruz, a Mexican fugitive facing charges of aggravated sexual assault. The arrest took place on Highway 50 in Carson City, Nevada, marking the culmination of a cross-border effort initiated by Mexican authorities on February 28, 2025. Verano-Cruz, who has a significant criminal history and has been deported from the U.S. three times, was wanted in Mexico following a warrant issued on February 8, 2020.

The operation was supported by the Carson City and Douglas County Sheriff’s Offices. During the arrest, another individual in Verano-Cruz’s vehicle was identified as being in violation of U.S. immigration laws and was subsequently taken into ICE custody.

U.S. Marshal Gary Schofield emphasized the importance of inter-agency collaboration in ensuring public safety and bringing dangerous individuals to justice. The Nevada Violent Offender Task Force is a multi-agency team comprising various law enforcement bodies, including local police departments, sheriff’s offices, federal agencies, and state departments.
