CDCR Employees Honored with Governors Medal of Valor for Heroic Acts

Three CDCR employees were presented with The Governor’s State Employee Medal of Valor Awards. All three were presented with the highest honor, a Special Act Award (Gold).
Thomas Coyle, a Senior Laboratory Assistant at Mule Creek State Prison was awarded for risking his own life to help save at least two others after witnessing a crash and assisting the victims to get out of harm’s way. Charles Davis, a Correctional Sergeant at Pelican Bay State Prison risked his own life to enter a burning home to save a young man before the home was engulfed in flames. Lastly, Rogelio Tienda a Correctional Officer at Corcoran State Prison was awarded for his bravery when he helped pull another officer from a burning car.
