Congressman Doug LaMalfa has reintroduced the End Taxpayer Funding of Gender Experimentation Act, known as H.R. 2202. The legislation seeks to prohibit federal funding for gender transition procedures and restricts federal healthcare facilities and providers from offering such procedures. LaMalfa argues that taxpayers should not have to fund these surgeries and treatments, which he describes as controversial.

Senator Roger Marshall has introduced a companion bill in the Senate, emphasizing a return to “common sense” and stating that many Americans oppose using taxpayer dollars for gender transition procedures. Citing statistics, Marshall notes that a significant portion of Americans believe sex is assigned at birth and oppose gender transition procedures for minors.

The bill is supported by organizations like the Alliance Defending Freedom, which argues against what they see as harmful procedures on minors. The legislation exempts treatments for individuals with medically verifiable disorders of sex development.

LaMalfa has introduced this bill in previous congressional sessions, and it follows reports of federal spending on gender transition procedures, including expenditures by the Department of Defense. The bill would not affect Medicaid policies in states that cover transgender-related healthcare, but it aims to restrict federal funds from being used for these procedures unless specific medical conditions are present.
