Assembly Republicans have initiated Cost of Living Week to highlight the detrimental policies that are contributing to rising prices across California and to advocate for measures that provide genuine relief for working families.
Legislative Democrats had committed to addressing the state’s affordability crisis but have since acknowledged a lack of actionable plans. As families face increasing costs and leave the state, Democrats have obstructed viable solutions. Assembly Republicans are now intensifying their demands for action.
Assembly Republican Leader James Gallagher stated, “We don’t need another ‘select committee’ to tell us what most Californians already know. Democrats admit that the cost of living is the top threat to our future. So why do they keep pushing policies that raise prices, expand bureaucracy, and hammer working families with higher taxes? Republicans are done waiting. Californians need relief now. If Democrats are serious, they’ll stop blocking solutions and start working with us. Let them explain why they keep standing in the way.”
The solutions proposed by Assembly Republicans include:
- Lowering gas prices by suspending costly mandates and hidden taxes.
- Making housing more affordable through cutting red tape and streamlining construction.
- Delivering insurance rate relief and restoring a functioning market for homeowners.
- Enacting a middle-class tax cut to help families retain more of their earnings.
- Reducing utility rates by reforming energy policies that penalize consumers.
Earlier this year, Assembly Republicans presented a legislative package aimed at cost reduction, but many of these bills were blocked by Democrat leadership, with some not even being granted a hearing.
“Assembly Republicans are standing up for working Californians with real solutions, not more excuses,” Gallagher emphasized.
