Lake Almanor Fishing Report

SHARE NOW

Recent fishing conditions at Lake Almanor have been quite variable, ranging from sunny and calm to windy with clouds and rain, leading to an inconsistent bite. The water level is rising and currently sits just below 4,492 feet, approximately 2 feet from being full. Water clarity has significantly improved, particularly in the Hamilton Branch area, and temperatures are in the mid to upper 50s, increasing on sunny days.

The lake is experiencing robust bug hatches, attracting fish to the surface. Trout are dispersed throughout the lake, with trollers reporting action in various locations, including the dam, Dorado, and Big Springs. The improved water color has positively impacted fishing success.

Both sides of the peninsula and the west shore from Rocky Point to Almanor West are also producing fish. Anglers have a wide range of options for bait, including worms, plastics, trolling flies, and fast-trolled spoons, with most active fish found at depths from the surface to 30 feet. The catch consists of a mix of rainbows, browns, and some salmon, while smallmouth bass are also active in shallow waters.

Bait fishermen are having success at locations like Dorado, the dam, and Red Bank. Fly anglers using nymphs under indicators are finding fish attracted to the plentiful bugs. As more rental services and resorts open, lake traffic is increasing.
