A victory at the California Rodeo Salinas is highly esteemed in the world of professional rodeo, marking it as one of the premier events in the nation. Recently, Metallic Touchdown, a horse owned by Keith Lockard’s horse, Metallic Touchdown (affectionately known simply as Mo), out of Janesville, recently won the Salinas California Open Bridle Stockhorse competition.
Lockard emphasized the significance of winning at Salinas, citing it as a major achievement in California rodeo. He noted that Mo, being the youngest competitor in the event, excelled in his first appearance in the open bridle class. Winning a Salinas buckle is a notable accomplishment, with Lockard expressing pride in Mo’s victory.
The decision to compete at Salinas was initiated by Gorrell, who believed in Mo’s potential to win. Looking ahead, Mo is set to continue competing and is expected to qualify for the Wool Show in Texas in February.
Lockard’s journey with Mo began when he purchased the horse sight unseen as a yearling in Napa Valley. Initial training was provided by Janesville horse trainer Billy Sinks, followed by further training in Idaho with Wade Rainey. Gorrell has since taken over the riding duties and will continue to showcase Mo in upcoming events.
The California Rodeo Salinas has been a significant part of the local community for over a century, contributing to the economy and supporting non-profit organizations. The event fosters community pride and solidifies Salinas’ reputation as home to one of the top professional rodeos in the United States. The California Rodeo Association plays a vital role in enhancing community involvement and support through this beloved event.
